Springfield Music student wins guitar signed by Slash days after playing “Sweet Child of Mine” at Valentine’s Day Recital.
SPRINGFIELD, MO February 20, 2013 — When Ian Zinecker played “Sweet Child of Mine” at the Springfield Music Valentine’s Day recital, he didn’t know in under a week he’d be playing the guitar signed by Slash, one of the song’s authors.
In December, Ian’s mom entered him into the Springfield Music Slash Guitar Giveaway Sweepstakes, and this February his name was drawn from over 1,000 entries. The sweepstakes was set up by Springfield Music and FOX KRBK to encourage and empower local musicians to set their music goals high.
Slash, widely considered one of the greatest rock guitar players of all time, signed the guitar donated by Springfield Music while visiting Springfield in September, and is Ian’s favorite guitarist.
Ian plays both acoustic and electric guitar and has been taking lessons at Springfield Music since 2011. No stranger to the music industry, his father is the band director at Cherokee and Wilsons Creek middle schools, and his mother, Tricia, is a vocal instructor and teacher at Republic School District. His current Springfield Music instructor, Sean Clavin, is a multi-instrumentalist and 16 year veteran of “Roy Rogers Jr and The High Riders.”
“We are thrilled Ian was the recipient of the Slash guitar,” said Donovan Bankhead, Springfield Music’s vice president. “It’s students like him that make having these contests so much fun!”
Springfield Music is currently sponsoring a “Love YOUR Instrument” Sweepstakes where the best video or photo submission will win a $100 gift certificate towards anything in the store. For more information about the contest, visit http://bit.ly/SGFmusic_love_contest
